The body of the gear change, that which would be an aluminium casting, is another of the brass castings.  The hand brake fittings and the gear change lever are fabricated from brass.  The unit is bolted to the chassis cross member as it needs to be removed and nickel plated at the final stage.  Casings for the pulleys for the hand brake cable are etchings.  These together with the brake hydraulics distributor are soft soldered in place.
