The Falls of Clyde - the Iron Hull

Each alternate frame carries 2 deck beams the ends of which are bent to form brackets, called knees.  These are made with the aid of one side of the ‘Beam Making Machine’.  Angle brass is then soft soldered to the top of the beam on both sides, then the beam is bent to the curvature of the deck, in the opposite side of the same machine, before being soft soldering to the ships frame, in the ‘Frame Making Machine’.
